When the time came for me to choose a career direction, I wavered between graphic design and nursing — because I liked to draw, and wanted to help people. I ended up choosing graphic design (the sight of blood makes me dizzy!), but I missed feeling like my career benefited people. Since discovering UX design a few years later, I've managed to combine the best of both worlds, by using my design skills to make products that help people work efficiently, learn to love reading, and even swim faster! Finding elegant solutions to problems people face is a big motivator for me, and is at the core of why I chose to enter the UX design industry.
When I'm not at work I enjoy spending time with friends, learning how to grow fruits and vegetables, and painting.

After over 10 years of delivering user-friendly solutions in both public and private sectors, I can use my experience to help you take your design project from start all the way to completion.
I have had responsibility for ensuring the user experience of entire products, and thrive on solving complex problems. I am both detail-oriented and focused on seeing the big picture — both from the users' and business' perspectives. It's exciting to see how the small details fit together to create holistic experiences over time for the people who use them.
I moved to Norway from Canada in 2019, and am now fluent in Norwegian as well as English. However I have now forgotten how to speak French. Sorry, eh! 🤷♀️
My Linkedin profile has more details if you're the curious type.
I wrote and illustrated a Christian children's book, aimed at 4-6 year olds. In it a mom and her two kids go to the forest and learn about God's wisdom, power and creativity.
The book will be available in English and Norwegian sometime in 2025, and you can follow @megan.aalen.books on Instagram for updates on when you can get your copy!
TritonWear is a system that lets coaches track competitive swimmers' metrics in real-time, and analyze them in detail to help them improve.
I was the lead designer for TritonWear's entire digital product offering, and performed tests of the hardware & software IRL at the pool. Real-life testing helped me better understand the coaches and swimmers who use the products, showed me flaws in my design thinking, and even led to me becoming a faster swimmer!
Licensed by Disney Imagicademy and Moshi Monsters, these books allowed children to read physical books and unlock extra 3D content and games by scanning special pages with a tablet or phone.
This video security product features AI-enabled counting of people and vehicles, license plate recognition, heat maps, and more. In addition to designing the UX of these features, I also worked on designing the interactions and stories for how people would use the digital platform as a whole.
Avigilon Alta is owned by Motorola Solutions.
I led the design and strategy of a complex product used by 500,000+ global users, which allowed for the collection of large amounts of precise compliance data from our customers' suppliers.
A big part of this role was not only planning for our next steps for the product, but also sharing those plans with stakeholders in other departments, to get alignment on the direction.
Finansportalen is a well-known website that helps people all over Norway make better financial choices.
I was brought in as a consultant to assess the accessibility of the site, and advise them in how to go forward with any necessary changes. While completing the site audit, I also held regular accessibility meetings with the in-house product managers. These meetings helped them understand the issues, how to prioritise them, and how to move forward with accessibility in the future.
